Faculty Development Session: Holistic Nursing

Tuesday, January 25th at 11 AM, there will be a faculty development session preceding the Faculty Meeting. Cindy Walters will present via zoom a short review of holistic nursing within Duquesne University, an integrated wellness assessment and a guided meditation. Please plan to join us.


Lifestyle Coaches: Diabetes Prevention Program

Through a grant from the Hillman Foundation, the Center for Integrative Care has partnered with Dr. Jennifer Elliot’s team in Pharmacy and founded a Diabetes Prevention Program (DPP) via their Community Health Initiatives Program. Two DUSON faculty members received DDP lifestyle coaches’ training this past summer and have led sessions via Zoom for DDP’s first cohort. 

DPP is preparing for the next cohort, and are reaching out to interested DUSON faculty. If you are interested in receiving coach training and helping to lead sessions for the second cohort group, please contact Melanie Turk. Sessions will be held from February 2022-December 2022 (weekly for 6 months and then monthly for 6 months). Another lifestyle coach training session (1.5 days via Zoom) is being scheduled later this month (in January). 


Duke Advanced Practice Provider Leadership Institute

The Duke Advanced Practice Provider Leadership Institute (APPLI) is accepting applications NOW through March 14, 2022. We are excited to continue offering the APP-led team-based training model that is associated with our predecessor program (Duke-Johnson & Johnson Nurse Leadership Program), and up to 25 interprofessional health care teams will be selected to participate for the 2022-2023 program year. Operational costs for this robust professional development opportunity is supported, in part, by sponsorship from the Duke Health Chancellor’s Office.

Duke APPLI is committed to offering Advanced Practice Providers (Advanced Practice Nurses, Physician Assistants and other non-physician providers who have graduate level education and training) and their interprofessional team partners a life-changing opportunity to become leaders in innovative models of care, education and advocacy to achieve health equity for all.  We invite APPs and their interprofessional colleagues, committed to collaborating together on a transformative health initiative, to participate in this leadership development program. This 12-month program includes leadership web-conferences, distance-based learning sessions, and opportunities to receive individualized executive coaching, engage in leadership salon discussions, and gain team mentoring to develop and implement a quality or population health improvement project.  Duke APPLI offers innovative and integrated training in the areas of leadership, management, communications, advocacy, DEI promotion, business and financial acumen, and project management and evaluation.  It is structured to provide health care teams a program rich in content and opportunities for professional and personal development.  We hope that you and your colleagues will consider applying if you are eligible or share this opportunity widely within and outside your organization.  We are very interested in engaging with a diverse group of APP participants and their invaluable team colleagues who can add unique and valuable perspectives and skills.

Undergraduate Research & Scholarship Symposium – Deadlines and Abstract Submissions

Abstract Deadline: Wednesday, March 23rd

Online Symposium Upload Deadline: Monday, April 11th
All participants will be required to upload a pdf of their poster with an accompanying 2-3 minute video explanation for the virtual event. 

Creative Video Competition

Deadline: Wednesday, March 23rd

Creative Video Competition entries will be displayed on a big screen and run during poster sessions at the in-person URSS. Students will also upload their creative videos to our online platform.

Cardiovascular Digital Health Journal: Call for Manuscripts on Preventive Digital Medicine

The Cardiovascular Digital Health Journal is issuing a call for submissions of empirical research papers, reviews (systematic; meta-analyses), and perspectives related to behavioral and preventive medicine in the area of cardiovascular disease. The intersection of these fields is of high interest to patients, researchers, and clinicians and the impact of ongoing research in this area is high.

Submissions focusing on digital health interventions (e.g., physical activity, mood management, smoking cessation) to improve cardiovascular fitness, recovery, or disease prevention are welcome. Similarly, submissions that examine associations of behavioral health measures from mobile health or electronic health sources with cardiovascular outcomes are also of interest.
